East Helena to raise awareness for Strengthening Families Month and the

Week of the Young Child

WHAT:          Radley Elementary School in East Helena, is partnering with The Montana Children’s Trust Fund, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Montana, and Big Sky UAV in an effort to raise awareness for Pinwheels for Prevention. Over 550 students and teachers will participate to form a pinwheel display on Friday, April 21 at 2:45 p.m. Aerial photography will show giant blue pinwheels to share statewide and encourage other schools and communities to find creative ways to raise awareness.

Early next week, Radley students, assisted by East Valley Middle School, will be planting 550 pinwheels at Main Street Park on Monday, April 24. This display will remain up through the Week of the Young Child, April 24-28.

Pinwheels for Prevention is a national public awareness campaign built around the symbol of the pinwheel, which represents a happy and uplifting symbol of childhood and conveys the message that every child deserves the chance to be raised in a healthy, safe, and nurturing environment. The campaign works to remind everyone to discuss the importance of strong families and communities and to know what resources are available to make both possible.

These activities are being held in conjunction with various other National Strengthening Families Month activities taking place statewide in April.

About the Montana Children’s Trust Fund

This month and throughout the year, the Montana Children’s Trust Fund encourages all individuals and organizations to play a role in making Montana a better place for children and families. By ensuring that parents have the knowledge, skills, and resources they need to care for their children, we can help promote children’s social and emotional well-being and prevent child maltreatment within families and communities.
