Council on Aging Listening Session in
Missoula Aug. 14

The Governor’s Advisory Council on Aging has set aside some time during their quarterly council meeting for a listening session Aug. 14 on the University of Montana Campus in Missoula.

The listening session is slated for 1 p.m. in room 210 at the James Todd Building.

“Seniors, caregivers and any other interested people will be given an opportunity to share their ideas and any concerns or issues they may have regarding senior services with the council members,” said Charlie Rehbein, Aging Services Bureau chief for the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services.

Our society is aging, and experts report this trend will continue for at least another 25 to 30 years. As the Baby Boom generation moves into their latter years of life it will put a strain on the services and service delivery systems, Rehbein stressed.

Council chairman Beverly Barnhart said it’s a balancing act to not only consider issues that might arise in the coming years, but also be responsive to current issues affecting seniors. “While we need to plan for the future, we also need to consider the needs of our current elderly population and that is what this listening session is about,” Barnhart said.

Susan Kohler, Executive Director of Missoula Aging Services, agrees. “This listening session is an opportunity for people to discuss their service needs as well as other concerns they may have,” she said.
