Sun Safety and Skin Cancer Prevention
To protect yourself and those you love, including children, from skin cancer, obey the Sun A.W.A.R.E. actions:
AVOID unprotected exposure to sunlight, find shaded areas, and do not use tanning beds and sun lamps.
WEAR protective clothing like long-sleeved shirts, pants, wide-brimmed hats, and sunglasses.
APPLY sunscreen with a sunburn protection factor (SPF) of 30 or higher to yourself and your children.
ROUTINELY check your body for changes to your skin, and talk to your doctor if you notice any changes.
EDUCATE others about being Sun A.W.A.R.E.
Think tanning is “cool”? Think again. It’s actually a sign of damaged skin caused by unprotected exposure to ultraviolet (UV) rays.
Unprotected exposure to UV rays is linked to skin cancer, and this applies to your children too!
To protect yourself and loved ones from skin cancer, avoid unprotected exposure to sunlight, do not use tanning beds and sun lamps, wear protective clothing, apply sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of 30 or higher, routinely check for skin changes, and educate others.
