Annual Helena adoption ceremony to be held November 21

A total of 15 children to be adopted

The annual Helena Celebrate Adoption ceremony is slated for Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at 2 p.m. at the Capitol Rotunda.

The event is part of National Adoption Awareness Month and is co-sponsored by the Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS), Catholic Social Services, Dan Fox Foster Care and Adoption, Child Bridge, and Wendy’s Wonderful Kids.

Additional adoption ceremonies are being celebrated throughout November in Billings, Bozeman, Great Falls and Missoula.

In Helena, a total of 15 children will officially be adopted.

“There is no greater gift than to provide a child with a forever family,” Governor Steve Bullock said. “I wish these children and families all the best in the years to come as they begin a new chapter in their lives.”

The Honorable Kathy Seeley, District Court Judge, with help from Sylvester and Tweety Bird, will be on hand to preside over the ceremony.

DPHHS Director Sheila Hogan said it’s important to note that adoptions take place year round all across Montana. In state fiscal year 2017, the DPHHS Child and Family Services Division helped with nearly 280 adoptions.

Hogan said the state is always looking for more parents who are interested in adoption. “I know there are a lot of parents out there who want to adopt, and we’re here to help,” she said. “Our goal is to help every child reach their potential, and give them the necessary tools to be successful.”

She said DPHHS is always in need of more foster parents. “I encourage anyone who might be interested in adoption or becoming a foster parent, to contact our agency to learn more,” she said. “I also want to thank all the organizations in the private sector who are committed to finding homes for Montana’s children. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of Montana’s children.”

For example, in July 2017, DPHHS signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Child Bridge to work together help find permanent homes for Montana’s foster children. To help in this effort, Child Bridge has developed the ‘Finding a Way Home’ initiative using digital, print and statewide displays.

“A big part of the effort involves a series of modular, portable displays,” said Mary Bryan of Child Bridge. “Our goal is to have eight displays around the state simultaneously, featuring eight  children at a time.”
