Wholesale Food Rule Change

  • NOTICE: The department is proposing updates to the wholesale food and federal food standards rules. The wholesale food rule most recent update was November 4, 1973. The most recent update to the federal food standards rule was January 17, 2003. Reasoning for these updates is to bring the state in compliance with current Montana retail food law, most recent scientific findings regarding food safety for consumers and industry, and congruence with other states to facilitate better interstate and intrastate commerce.

Comments regarding these updates may be made at a public hearing or submitted in writing.

The public hearing is scheduled June 13, 2019 at 1:00 p.m., Department of Public Health and Human Services auditorium, 111 N. Sanders St., Helena, Montana. Written comments or special accommodations needs for the public hearing may be submitted to: Gwen Knight, DPHHS Office of Legal Affairs,  P.O. Box 4210, Helena, MT 59604-4210; fax (406) 444-9744; email: dphhslegal@mt.gov, and must be received by 5:00 p.m., June 21 2019.
