Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices. Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood.
Things to consider
Consider partnering with your school counselors, principals, teachers, parents if concerns arise regarding a student’s mental health/safety.
Some districts may have a Comprehensive School and Community Treatment (CSCT) program that provides further therapy/counseling for qualifying students.

Montana Law
In April 2015, the governor of Montana signed House Bill 374, which requires the Office of Public Instruction to provide guidance, technical assistance, and training materials to schools on youth suicide awareness and prevention. It also encourages school district employees and Office of Public Instruction staff who work directly with students to complete at least two hours of training in youth suicide awareness and prevention every five years.
