Board of Public Assistance
The Board of Public Assistance is a quasi-judicial body that provides a forum in which aggrieved citizens can contest actions of the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services related to public assistance.
An individual or service provider who believes he or she has been wrongly denied public assistance benefits has the right to request an administrative hearing conducted by a hearing officer. If he or she is dissatisfied with the outcome, he or she may appeal the decision to the Board of Public Assistance. The board reviews the record of the administrative hearing and makes a final decision, which may be appealed to district court.
The three-member board is appointed by the governor.
