ARPA School Health Funding Opportunities

Two funding opportunities are available to support COVID-19 response in Montana schools. Through the Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity for Prevention and Control of Emerging Infectious Disease-Reopening Schools Cooperative Agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Montana Department of Health and Human Services (DPHHS) is offering screening testing for Montana’s K-12 teachers, staff, and students during the 2021-2022 school year. Screening tests are early detection tools. They help identify people positive with COVID-19 to isolate quickly, and their close contacts can quarantine. This helps to limit the spread of COVID-19 and reduces the likelihood of outbreaks.

Another funding opportunity is available through the CDC Cooperative Agreement for Emergency Response: Public Health Crisis Response. The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services is awarding funding to establish, expand, train, and sustain the public health workforce to support jurisdictional COVID-19 prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery initiatives, including school-based health programs. $1,812,718 is available for school health workforce support. K-12 schools are eligible to apply for funding up to $250,000. All funding must be used to recruit, hire, and train school nurses and other school health personnel to increase the current capacity to address COVID-19 and future preparedness activities.
