Waiver for Additional Services and Populations (WASP)
The Waiver for Additional Services and Populations (WASP) is a Medicaid program that helps eligible adults with a severe and disabling mental illness obtain standard Montana Medicaid coverage when they do not otherwise qualify for Medicaid. The program is designed to improve access to mental health treatment and other health services that support stability, recovery, and community living.
Adults may be eligible for WASP if they are 18 years of age or older, have a qualifying severe and disabling mental illness as determined by a licensed mental health professional, meet income requirements, and are not eligible for another Medicaid program. Applications may be submitted by the individual or with assistance from a provider, and approval allows access to the full range of services available under Montana’s Medicaid State Plan.
