MCDC Application & Referrals Information

How to Make a Referral

Montana Chemical Dependency Center (MCDC) is the sole state in patient treatment facility for the disease of addiction administered by the Department of Public health and Human Services, Addictive and Mental Disorders Division.  MCDC has 48 in patient treatment beds and operates 24 hours a day 365 days a year.

People suffering from the disease of addictions, especially those suffering from substance use disorders may submit referrals from a Montana State Licensed Addiction counselor (LAC). The Licensed addiction counselor will complete the MCDC application and use the ASAM (American Society of Addiction medicine (ASAM) Level III.5 and III.7 Dimensional analysis.

Once applications are received by MCDC,  the admission committee will review the application. The patient may be contacted for a brief phone interview, legal involved parties (such as probation), and often the referring party(ies) before a final decision is made for acceptance to treatment.

The patient with the assistance of the referring LAC will be asked to complete the financial assessment which is found on this website. Patients will be accepted if they need an intensive level of care, if they agree to the financial determination, and if the patient desires to engage in treatment.

Once  the above issues are decided,  a bed date with a specified arrival time is schedule for the patient.  All Patients are encouraged to have a sober support person bring them to and from MCDC.
