EMS QI Project
Time Sensitive Injury and Illness Quality Improvement Initiative
Mission
“To reduce death and disability of Montanans who experience time sensitive illness or injury through evidence-based best practices, education, and data-driven continuous quality improvement.”
The EMS program has launched a Time Sensitive Illness and Injury Initiative to assist Montana ambulance services in the use of their data to improve patient outcomes. Using evidence-based performance measures, ambulance services are provided a semiannual quality improvement report with performance measures in Stroke, Chest Pain/STEMI, Cardiac Arrest, Severe Trauma, Traumatic Brain Injury, and Lights and Sirens use.
An EMS Recognition program will be launched in the spring of 2022 that will recognize EMS agencies for excellence in the above mentioned Time Sensitive Injury and Illness measures with the addition of Pediatric Readiness Recognition.
Education will be provided in continuous quality improvement using the State of Montana EMS Data System.
Education will also be provided with each of the Time Sensitive Illness and Injury topics being offered.
The National Emergency Medical Services Information System (NEMSIS) is the national database that is used to store EMS data from the U.S. States and Territories. NEMSIS is a universal standard for how patient care information resulting from an emergency 911 call for assistance is collected. NEMSIS is a collaborative system to improve patient care through the standardization, aggregation, and utilization of point of care EMS data at a local, state and national level. NEMSIS is a product of NHTSA’s Office of EMS and in collaboration with the University of Utah is the host of the Technical Assistance Center (TAC).
