Governor’s Advisory Council on Aging
The federal Older Americans Act of 1965, reauthorized in 2016, mandates a Governor’s Advisory Council on Aging. In Montana, Governor Greg Gianforte appoints eleven citizens to the Council, the majority of whom are age 60 or older, for three-year terms. This Council acts as the principal advisor to both the Governor and the State Aging Coordinator on aging and long-term care issues, aligning with the goals of the Montana State Legislature and the Older Americans Act.
Council members, including a Chair appointed by the Governor, advocate for the needs and concerns of aging Montanans. Their work has increasingly focused on informing older adults, their families, and caregivers about pertinent challenges and available resources for planning long-term care. A key platform for this outreach is the annual Governor’s Conference on Aging, which invites participation from seniors across the state.
Visit the Montana Governor's Conference on Aging webpage for more details on the conference.
