Infection Control and Prevention and Healthcare-Associated Infections Section
The Infection Control and Prevention and Healthcare-Associated Infections (ICP/HAI) Section’s mission is to increase infection control expertise across the health care spectrum in Montana through training, education, and infection control assessments. The section consists of epidemiology, infection prevention and control, and pharmacy expertise.
To achieve this, DPHHS works closely with stakeholders and health care facilities from around Montana to:
- Improve accurate reporting of HAIs to the National Healthcare Safety Network.
- Coordinate and implement HAI prevention activities.
- Improve infection prevention breadth and scope at health care facilities.
- Detect and help mitigate outbreaks that occur in health care facilities.
- Prevent and contain multidrug-resistant organisms spread.
- Educate providers to prescribe antibiotics appropriately.
- Assist hospitals and other health care facilities to have strong antimicrobial stewardship programs.
