Dental Health

School-based dental health screenings offer an opportunity to identify children with oral health needs and monitor public health activity in Montana. Communication between school officials, local health departments, dental clinics, parents, and the Oral Health Program creates a network for children to access dental care. The following resources are designed to assist in school-based dental activities and case management.

Offer Montana residents dental services at reduced cost and may help with case management of children with dental care needs.

Sealants for Smiles

School-based preventive dental services SFS program provides preventive care in schools throughout Montana. The program is in its second year and is coordinated by Dr. Jane Gillette and Ms. Bridgette Schrampfer. SFS is funded through grants and supported by the   Montana Dental Association.

Transportation Assistance through Medicaid for Dental Services

Medicaid-eligible children identified during screenings that may require travel to obtain dental care may receive transportation assistance from Medicaid. For reimbursement caregivers must contact the Medicaid Transportation Call Center at 1-800-292-7114 to pre-authorize travel. 

Dental Health Curriculum for Teachers

Montana DPHHS has compiled resources for use in school-based dental education programs, which can be conducted throughout the school year or in conjunction with Children's Dental Health Month in February.   Please visit the Oral Health Program's School Based Dental Health webpage for grade level resources.
