Strategic National Stockpile & Emergency Medical Countermeasures

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) maintains the Strategic National Stockpile (SNS) which is a national repository of antibiotics, chemical antidotes, antitoxins, life-support medications, airway maintenance supplies and other medical assets. The mission of the SNS is to deliver critical medical assets to the site of a national emergency. During a public health emergency, the SNS can rapidly supplement and re-supply local medical supplies and equipment if necessary.

The SNS includes 12-Hour Push Packages. The push packages contain a large variety of medical supplies that are available for rapid deployment to anywhere in the United States, including Montana. During a public health emergency, the CDC can release portions of the SNS (including the 12 push packages) to a predetermined receiving site in Montana. The initial shipment of SNS assets can arrive within 12 hours of the federal decision to deploy SNS assets.

Montana has agreements with county and tribal governments to maintain plans to receive and distribute urgently needed medical supplies that may arrive through the SNS or other sources.
