Strategic National Stockpile & Emergency Medical Countermeasures

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) maintains the Strategic National Stockpile (SNS) which is a national repository of antibiotics, chemical antidotes, antitoxins, life-support medications, airway maintenance supplies and other medical assets. The mission of the SNS is to deliver critical medical assets to the site of a national emergency. During a public health emergency, the SNS can rapidly supplement and re-supply local medical supplies and equipment if necessary.

The SNS includes 12-Hour Push Packages. The push packages contain a large variety of medical supplies that are available for rapid deployment to anywhere in the United States, including Montana. During a public health emergency, the CDC can release portions of the SNS (including the 12 push packages) to a predetermined receiving site in Montana. The initial shipment of SNS assets can arrive within 12 hours of the federal decision to deploy SNS assets. For more information, please visit http://www.cdc.gov/phpr/stockpile/stockpile.htm.

Montana has agreements with county and tribal governments to maintain plans to receive and distribute urgently needed medical supplies that may arrive through the SNS or other sources.
