Introduction

The Montana Primary Care Office (PCO) is committed to improving access to primary care services to medically underserved and vulnerable populations.

The Montana PCO is part of the Montana Department of Public Health & Human Services and is grant funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA). Two bureaus inside HRSA oversee the Montana PCO, the The Bureau of Health Workforce and The Bureau of Primary Health Care.

The Montana PCO supports HRSA in the following ways:

  • Liaison for the National Health Service Corp (NHSC) programs.
  • Provide Health Professional Shortage Area (HPSA) analysis for Montana.
  • Administer the Montana State Loan Repayment Program (SLRP).
  • Recommend J-1 visa waivers for foreign medical graduates to the U.S. Department of State.

 

The PCO works collaboratively with the multiple resources including Montana Primary Care AssociationMontana Office of Rural Health and Area Health Education Center (AHEC), the Montana Hospital Association, and other entities.
