Workplace Readiness Training

Workplace Readiness Skills

Workplace readiness training is developing the skills and behaviors necessary for any job. These skills help a student learn how to interact with supervisors and co-workers. No matter what technical skills a job may require, every job requires good social skills/interpersonal skills and learning how to use appropriate workplace behavior.

Social and Interpersonal Skills

All students should recognize the appropriate ways to greet people, maintain eye contact, say “please” and “thank you”, silence devices during conversations, and more.

Pre-ETS will prepare students for the work place by talking about the importance of appropriate social etiquette used at work such as wearing proper clothing, time management skills, using social cues such as a good handshake, powering down their phones, maintaining eye contact, and finally, how to answer interview questions appropriately.

These websites offer different ways of thinking about proper communication skills in the workplace.

Workplace Behavior

Much of the etiquette rules for the classroom also apply to the workplace. For example, there is a hierarchy where the teacher plays a role similar to a boss and the students are in a position that coworkers often are.

Learning proper behavior in the classroom helps develop skills in the workplace when students are ready to get a job.  These websites offer some tips on proper workplace behavior.
